The primary difference between controlling a process (liquid or gas) and positioning a solid object (automation) is the inertia of the object. On a process, load is relatively constant. Moving the controlling device (i.e., a valve) will only cause a modest increase in load. The exception occurs when shutting off the device. Forces at that point can more than double instantaneously. The performance of REXA units remains unchanged when seating.

Automation applications require the positioning of a solid object. At speed, the required load is usually only friction. However, the mass of the object results in an increased load during acceleration and deceleration. The stiffness of the positioner is the primary characteristic to resist the inertia-induced forces. Electraulic™ operation has demonstrated an exceptional ability to respond to rapid load changes. In addition, the hydraulic dampening eliminates the wear of mating parts common in mechanical positioning devices.

The heart of the REXA unit is the power module. This component will deliver a bi-directional, variable volume flow of hydraulic oil at 2000 psi. When flow is not required, the oil is locked by integral valving and power is not required. The weight of the smallest module is less than 10 lb, has a volume under .2 cubic feet (including reservoir) and delivers .17 cubic inches of oil per second. Our largest module weighs 30 lb, has a volume under .3 cubic feet (including reservoir) and delivers 2.0 cubic inches of oil per second. There are three more intermediate sizes. These highly efficient hydraulic pumping systems are available on their own. Give you any ideas?
